The current consolidated Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/1586 lists harmonised standards supporting Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 applies generally from 20 January 2027. Confirm the live citation and applicable framework for every project.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Start with EN ISO 12100 for the machinery risk-assessment and risk-reduction framework. Then apply the guard, distance, interlocking, positioning and control-system standards relevant to the hazards and machine type.
No. Applicability depends on the machine and its risks. Presumption of conformity is limited to the requirements covered by standards whose exact references are published in the Official Journal, and the complete conformity process still applies.
Do not silently substitute editions. Check the EN adoption, Official Journal citation, transition dates and project conformity strategy, then document the technical route used.
C-type standards address particular machinery categories and may provide more specific solutions or requirements. They should be checked early alongside these general machinery-safety standards.
